Rodriguez was hit on the top of his left hand by a pitch from Kansas City right-hander Blake Wood in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday. Rodriguez, sitting on 599 homers since July 22, left the game for a pinch-runner.

"He says he's fine," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said in his post-game press conference. "I would anticipate, from my conversation with him, that he would probably be able to play (Monday).

"I asked him if he could squeeze (with the hand). He squeezed my shoulder and he could squeeze."

Wood, a rookie, had not hit a batter in his first 28 appearances this season. The pitch to Rodriguez came on a 1-2 count with the bases loaded.

Rodriguez finished the game -- a 12-6 victory for the Yankees -- 2-for-4 with three RBI. The game was delayed by rain for two hours, 32 minutes, shortly after A-Rod had grounded to short in the fifth inning.

He had an RBI double in the third inning against starter Sean O'Sullivan, who earlier in the week had beaten the Yankees as a member of the Los Angeles Angels.

On Saturday, Rodriguez went homerless against Royals starter Kyle Davies, against whom he hit his 500th career home run at old Yankee Stadium, Aug. 4, 2007, and reliever Robinson Tejeda, who surrendered his 599th home run on July 22.

Rodriguez, who turns 35 on Tuesday, is bidding to become the seventh -- and youngest -- player to reach 600 home runs.
